Domestic workers, caregivers and babysitters: contributions due by January 10

The deadline of January 10 applies to the payment of social security contributions for domestic workers, caregivers and babysitters, relating to the last quarter of 2025 (October–December). All employers of domestic staff are required to make the payment on time in order to avoid penalties and late-payment charges.

The contributions must be paid in full by the employer, including the mandatory contractual contributions for supplementary health and insurance coverage (Cassa Colf). Employers also advance the employee’s share of contributions, which may later be withheld from the worker’s salary.

The amount due depends on the hourly wage and the number of working hours. For employment relationships exceeding 24 hours per week, contributions are calculated on a flat-rate basis. An additional contribution applies to fixed-term contracts that are not justified by the replacement of absent workers (such as holidays, illness or maternity leave). The rates valid for the entire year 2025 are available online, and the INPS provides an online calculator to help employers determine the exact amount.

According to INPS, payments can be made using several methods: MAV payment slips sent directly by INPS; the online Payments Portal using PagoPA immediate payment, with credit card, debit card, prepaid card or direct debit; authorized outlets in the Reti Amiche network, including tobacconists and payment agencies; or by printing a PagoPA payment notice from the Payments Portal, which includes the payment code, amount due, deadline and instructions. A full list of authorized operators and payment channels is available on the website of PagoPA.

Meeting the January 10 deadline is essential to ensure full compliance with Italian regulations and to guarantee social security and insurance protection for domestic workers.
