Today, at 8:00 a.m., online enrolment for first classes for the 2026/2027 school year opened and will close at 8:00 p.m. on 14 February. Applications must be submitted through the UNICA platform, provided by the Ministry of Education and Merit.
As noted by the Ministry, online enrolment is mandatory for entry classes of primary school, lower secondary school, and upper secondary state schools. The online procedure also applies to enrolment in vocational education and training pathways, delivered under a subsidiarity regime by vocational institutes, as well as by training institutions accredited by the Regions that voluntarily adhere to the online enrolment system.
To complete the enrolment application, applicants must access the UNICA platform using a digital identity (SPID, CIE, CNS or eIDAS). The platform provides detailed instructions, guides to education pathways, tutorials, and useful statistics on the most chosen study programmes, the skills most in demand in the labour market, and the sectors with the greatest employment opportunities. It also includes the “Scuola in Chiaro” service, which allows users to explore a map of all schools nationwide.
The right and duty to education, and therefore the obligation to enrol, also applies to foreign minors in Italy, regardless of the regularity of their stay or that of their parents. This principle ensures equal access to education and the protection of children’s rights.
The Ministry of Education and Merit also reminds that foreign parents without a tax code can still complete online enrolment by contacting the chosen school or, alternatively, the school currently attended by the child. If a child has just arrived in Italy and does not yet have a tax code, it is possible to create a temporary code, which the school institution will later replace with the final tax code.
