Matapos ang naging kontrobersyal na pagbibitiw ng dating si Pope benedict XVI o sa ngayo'y Pope Emeritus, ay naging maingay maging sa Filipino community sa Italya ang pagiging 'papabile' ni Cardinal Tagle. Bukod pa sa mga maiinit na isyu na kinaharap ng Simbahang Katolika na tila ang pinaghandaan ng College of Cardinals ay ang muling paglilikha ng Simbahan sa halip na ang paghalal sa panibangong Santo Padre.
Narito ang ilan sa mga opinyon ng mga pangkaraniwang mamamayan at mga mananampalataya sa Roma:
Perlie Roxas
– As we all know the Pope lately had been sickly and weakening and having difficulty with his movements and making out his speech. He's also been advised by his doctor to stop doing transoceanic trips cause it's detrimental to his current health. And I guess what trigger more of his weakening were the numerous priestly molestation scandals and other discouraging matters that arise lately that damages the image of the Catholic church.
He once said that, "One can resign, the Pope, at a peaceful moment or when one simply cannot go on. But one must not run away and say someone else should do it." And in my opinion in his current health it's just wise of him to do so. Not because he is evading from the situation it's that he knew well enough that he'll be more of a burden rather than be of help.
If Archbishop Chito Tagle will be chosen to relieved the post that would be very welcoming and great pride to all the Filipino Catholic communities. It will make the Philippines known once again all over the world. And it would make him the first ever Asian Pope if ever.
Allan Gonzalez
– Ang comment ko lang ay Pilipino man o hindi ang magiging bagong Pope, magampanan lang sana nila ang pagiging "capo" ng simbahang Katoliko.

– Well nakaka-shock talaga yung balita na pati si Pope pwede pala magresign, but on the other side "noble act" ang kanyang ginawa, why? From the highest position, he's willing to give it up and pass it to other who is now more capable of becoming a Pope. And di ba may health issues pa.
At as for Cardinal Tagle, wow! Nakakatuwa ung balita in a sense na Pinoy tayo, tapos malaki yung chance na Pinoy ang susunod na Pope.
Tetet Enriquez
– Ang totoo maraming problema daw sa Vaticano ngayon kaya nag resign si Pope. But if si Tagle ang susunod na magiging Pope, deserving naman siya kasi matalino at siyempre karangalan na naman ng Pinoy ito kung sakali.
Noly Velasco
– Shocking syempre….physically siguro talagang di na nya kaya after all the problems na nangyari sa Vaticano.
Emel Gonzales
– Masasabi ko lang hindi lahat ng tao perpekto kaya normal lang na mag resign sya. Ang mahalaga may bagong Papang mag tutuloy na sinimulan ni Pope Benedict hindi man si Tagle or iba pa ang mahalaga mas nararapat yon ang pinaka the best.
Rosella Mancilla
– About the pope… He is having hard times latetly but he's intelligent and unselfish enough to publicly confess his tiredness. Sa tingin ko nag-try pa sya manatili sa puwesto nya, but after a year hinde pa rin nya nakayanan and he left, and I admire him for that!

– Para sa kin lang ha, okay tao lang tayo pero si Papa ay parang Santo Papa, di ba? Si Kristo nung pinahirapan hanggang sa mamatay di sya sumuko. Si Pope John Paul kahit may sakit di din sya sumuko hanggang mamatay. So para sa akin mali ang pagreresign ni Papa.

– Para skin kaya lang naging favorite si Cardinal Tagle kasi sya ang youngest candidate. Kaya nag-resign si Pope kasi sobra dami na eskandalo. Madami na ang pari na pedophile tapos, madaming countries na ngayun ang sang-ayon sa gay marriage which is contra sa layunin ng Katoliko.
