Rome, Nov. 12, 2012 – The Philippine Embassy in Rome successfully concluded its Overseas Absentee Voting (OAV) registration on 31 October 2012 with a total of 7,159 new registrants surpassing its targeted figure of 6,500.
The Embassy’s OAV team conducted field and mobile registrations during consular outreach missions in different parts of Italy such as in Cagliari, Pisa, Reggio Calabria, Florence and Bari.
While the OAV registration is officially finished, H.E. Ambassador Virgilio A. Reyes, Jr. continues to encourage the Filipino community in Italy to exercise their right of suffrage in accordance with Republic Act 9189 or the Overseas Absentee Voting Act of 2003.
Italy is one of the top ten countries with significant number of OAV registrants. During the last Presidential election in May 2010, there were 23,435 turnout votes in Italy. (Philippine Embassy- Rome)
