Pescara POLO-Outreach

Rome — POLO visited the Filipino Community in Pescara, the Associazione Comunita Filippina ACF- Pescara for the first time last July 10, 2011, in time for the conduct of POLO Services Outreach and induction of new set of officers.alt

The officers, led by ACF President Angelina Barin spear-headed the activity with the support of the rest of the newly inducted officers, members and in coordination with the Centro Polivalente Provinciali per Immigrati (Provincial Polyvalent Centre for Migrants) which provided the venue for said activity. Labor Attaché Chona M. Mantilla, OWWA Welfare Officer Ruth Roselynn Vibar, SSS Officer Francisco Bacol, Pag-ibig representative Leila Gutierrez and Admin. Staff Elizabeth Montealegre and Corazon Manzana extended full support for the conduct of said activity which benefitted at least 74 OFWs who availed the services of said outreach. Breakdown of those who benefitted from the offered services is as follows: OWWA – 19; SSS – 32; Pag-ibig – 12; DOLE- 11 (1 Exit Pass-OEC and the rest for information/consulting services).

altMr. Patrick Guobadia, Coordinator of Provincial Polyvalent Centre for Migrants and Ms. Marilena Pompa also from the Migrants Centre assisted and welcomed the POLO in the implementation of said Outreach Service. Mr. Guobadia, in a message to the ACP officers and members during the opening program, encouraged the community to help and support each other in the implementation of projects, pro-mote cooperation instead of division in order to succeed as an organization. Labatt Mantilla and Welof Vibar, meanwhile, shared about various POLO programs, particularly training programs for OFWs which the members can imple-ment in coordination with partner-groups. They also reminded the OFWs about issues and concerns which the OFWs should take note in order to maintain the good repu-tation of OFWs in the community, avail of OWWA, SSS, Pag-ibig membership services for their own welfare.

POLO also shared common experiences and exchanged information on services rendered to the migrants with Center officer and coordinator, Ms. Marilena Pompa who is in charge of conducting various training programs for migrants in Pescara, including Italian language course.

The community members were encouraged to partner and network with the Migrants Center and avail of their services and more so to support each other as a group and implement projects to pro-mote the well-being of OFWs in Pescara. The outreach services program was coordinated with the POLO-OWWA through Ms. Pearl Lagueras-Ventura and other officers who earlier arranged for said activity. (source: POLO-OWWA Rome)
