Priests hope truth will prevail in impeachment trial

PADUA, Italy – Filipino priests urged people to pray for the successful resolution of Chief Justice Renato Corona’s impeachment trial.

altMaasin Bishop Precioso Cantillas, chairman of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines-Episcopal Commission on Migrants and Itinerant People (CBCP-ECMI), said prayers are the most powerful weapon to achieve success.

Cantillas was visiting Padua City for the annual celebration of the feast of Senor Sto. Nino de Cebu.

While CBCP has no official stand on the issue, Cantillas personally wishes that the trial will bring out the truth.

“Natural kahit sino, ang gusto katotohanan at kabutihan. So kung anuman ang dapat na gawin yun ang dapat na umiral,”the bishop stressed.

According to him, prayers are great factors to be able to achieve the desired results by the people.

“Pagka’t kapag tayong mga Pilipino ay magiging matapat sa pananampalataya sa Diyos, natural ang Diyos ay gagawa ng paraan na tayo ay kanyang arugain at tangkilikin”Cantillas added.

On the other hand, the National Coordinator for Pastoral Care for Filipino Migrants, Rev. Fr. Elmer Bumanglag, SVD and Chaplain for Filipino Chaplaincy of Vicenza, hopes that all those concerned in the proceedings, especially the Congress, will be an instrument to reveal the truth for the benefit of the country.

“I am hoping that our government officials demonstrate what they ought to so that truth will be reached and will be known to the people,” said Bumanglag.

Meanwhile, the CBCP has called for the speedy resolution of the impeachment trial against Corona, as it ended the three-day plenary assembly at the Pius XII Catholic Center in Manila on January 30, 2012.

The CBCP stressed that while they support the government’s campaign against corruption, it must not also forget its obligations to the people who, for them, are the silent victims. ( by: Zita Baron)
